Kevin Nicholson is a Devon commercial photographer covering the South West and London. He has worked in all areas of commercial and editorial photography, but is primarily known for his high quality editorial and product photography and portrait work. Since moving to Devon from London, Kevin has been involved in the tourism and holiday industry working with local and regional clients and design groups in the marketing sector. He also works with a range of clients on magazine features, often working with art directors, designers and stylists to produce a polished end result.
Other areas that Kevin specialises in include commissioned portraits for individual social and commercial clients, and direct mail, brochures and other marketing literature.
Previously Kevin has had experience shooting everything from wedding photography to the construction industry, from food photography to fashion and model portfolios, from car shoots for Top Gear magazine to profile and location work for Country Life and HR materials for the Prison Service. He has collaborated with the Army over a long period producing images of training, technology, military equipment and fighting techniques for use in magazines and recruitment material. Kevin also has the capacity to copy fine art works using his extensive collection of specialised lighting (23 light sources at present).
The hotel and leisure industry has cottoned on to his skills and Kevin is now in demand throughout the South West shooting interiors and locations for a wide range of hospitality clients, often using models he can source from his extensive contacts. Hotel photography for brochures and web sites including interior and exterior shoots is now a significant area of work. Holiday cottage photography is also a speciality, especially photography for luxury holiday cottages. He is also working within the catering / food supply and preparation industry from the larger end (Philip Dennis food service) right down to the smallest local producers and start-up businesses.
Much of Kevin's early experience was gained during his time as a professional assistant to the top photographers Carl Warner and Kelvin Murray, to whom he worked for a period of over 4 years. Later he set up his own studio in Camden Town where he established himself working for the likes of Maxim, The Mail on Sunday magazine, Time Out, Loaded, and Sainsbury's magazine.
Since moving to North Devon, Kevin has been working on more personal work, mostly portrait photography of local characters and well known faces in his local community. Inspired by James Ravilious and by his own interest in history, Kevin combines his studio techniques to capture the essence of his subjects in his own unique style.
Kevin also runs occasional photography courses and tutorial sessions, sharing his knowledge of photographic techniques with amateurs, students, budding professionals, and school groups.
