Shooting for magazines is where I found out what I really wanted to do. Assisting advertising photographers was a tremendous experience, but working in an air kissing environment wasn’t really me. In publishing I met the most interesting people and got on with everyone like a house on fire. Real people having a lot of fun. I was lucky enough to work for FHM, Loaded, Maxim and Top Gear magazines in their heyday. (Even managing some pretty epic trips including Las Vegas with Chris Moyles, LA with Johnny Rotten and a shoot in Antigua for Maxim - crazy days!)
Nowadays publishing budgets are as limited as the sales, but I still do the odd shoot for BBC titles and supermarket magazines (both in-house and customer-facing) like Tesco and Waitrose. The trade publishing sector (especially for the catering and food industry) also helps to keep me busy, mainly covering the South West but also Wales, the Midlands and even Scotland on occasion.
